I must start this blog by saying that I’m just so grateful for the gorgeous community of support that has emerged to send me encouraging words and contribute to this fundraiser–your kindness has really lifted me up. I love hearing from you, reading your messages, and I’m moved every day by your thoughtfulness. Each gesture of support adds light to my world.
I’m not gonna lie, it has been a hell ride, but despite the difficulty of it all, I keep looking for the funny and of course I’m lucky to have the support that I do (looking at you, Mike <3 ). For sure, without the assistance of others, I don’t know where I’d be right now. All of the encouragement is having a positive impact in my life, and so many worries are being alleviated by this fundraiser.
The accident happened so quickly–it was as if the whole thing took place within the span of a single second. I’ve been very reflective on this–your life can literally change in a flash. It has taken a while to write with updates because there have been so many adjustments and the focus has been on creating protocols and procedures for accomplishing the simplest of daily tasks (ex. figuring out how to use the bathroom on two messed up legs=epic journey!!). Both of my knees are damaged, but that’s mostly ligament and soft tissue injury. The most serious injury is a broken tibia (the bone behind the femur). Things appear to be healing well and at the last orthopaedic specialist appointment, I was told that I won’t need surgery–a huge relief.
It’s been suggested that I’m looking at a year long recovery and if that’s the case, fair enough–however, I’m applying my iron will and my core strength to this healing endeavour, and I hope to be continuously moving towards a full recovery, perhaps a little sooner than a year. That said, I’m taking my time and doing everything I can to remain physically and mentally strong.
Now that I’m feeling a little better, I hope to be blogging here on the regular, so feel free to check in for updates. In the meantime, I remain forever grateful for all of your support.
