I tried to make an appointment with my family doctor, but the website said he would be out of town until October. He had a replacement, but there were no openings. This has created an ongoing problem because all the health care folks are sending their reports to my family doctor and expecting me to follow up there.
I had to search high and low to find anyone to give me information and support for my injuries–there are a lot of dead ends and broken links out there. My friend Ralph helped me in the search and discovered a service called MedVisit which is connected to the prescription delivery service MedNow. MedVisit offers OHIP covered HOUSE CALLS.
What?!
MEDVISIT
MedVisit came to my assistance when I was in rough shape and couldn’t get the help I needed anywhere. When I got in touch with the service, I had to navigate their interface and answer a bunch of questions with an agent. There was no doctor available, and I was put on a wait list. Literally within an hour a doctor called, said he was in the neighbourhood and could drop in right away. A young doctor showed up at the door and he was, in a word, excellent.
My biggest concern was the alarming amount of bruising happening to my broken leg. The doctor explained that tibia breaks have a tendency to bleed a lot. So the bruising that went from my knee to my ankle was the result of the bone bleeding (yikes!). He reassured me that it was normal, that the bruising was the blood draining down my leg and being processed, and that gravity was pulling it down towards my ankle. It would resolve itself over time. He gave me the information and reassurance that I needed. Super compassionate. All respect.
I called on MedVisit again a couple of weeks later to help with one of my other injuries–my left shoulder had been wrenched in the accident and was being aggravated by using the walker. I called on a Friday and didn’t get a doctor right away, but on Monday the same awesome doctor called and brought the same excellent care into the house. The next morning, my prescription was delivered to the door, free of charge.
MedNow/MedVisit have a web interface and have also developed an app. I don’t know the extent of the service, it may have limitations, but their site says they are Canada-wide. I haven’t used the app, and maybe it’s weird to be ordering medical help like you would order a ride-share, but having a doctor come into your home to help you out is a very good thing.
RATINGS
MEDVISIT/MEDNOW: A+
